sometimes i stare at people out car windows and forget they can see me back.
usually when they see me i get embarrassed and look away.
other days, like today, i will shamelessly and obviously stare right back at them.
we were on our way home when we were getting close to my neighborhood and saw this "emo kid" walking alongside the road. tight pants, silly hair, you know the drill. first i started staring to see if he was hot, but then he saw me and heather and tina were like !!! but i seriously just stared right back, making the best eye ontact you can at 30+ ft away until we turned into my neighborhood. haha.

devastated

so now i know what it feels like when one of your favorite bands breaks up. it feels like a best friend just died.

We have just put out word that we will not be making a new Format album. Please understand this was a tough decision and we're both upset about it. While we accept there will be false speculation as to why, understand that Sam and I remain extremely close and in fact are still passing the twin peaks box set back and forth in an attempt to figure out who REALLY killed laura palmer.

We also want to thank everyone with and within the Format, particularly Mike, Don, and Marko, whom without, none of this would have ever even been fully realized. We both suggest you support their musical talents and whatever they decide to do. And lastly we want to thank the
fans who made this the best 5 years of our lives.

- nate

EDIT: THANK GOD FOR AP.NET
I was on the verge of dying before I read these extra comments which made me feel a bit better

New York, NY – Nate Ruess and Sam Means, the principle duo behind Arizona’s The Format, have tabled the band to focus on other projects. “We have decided to put The Format aside and work on our individual material. This was a tough decision,” says Means.

“We came out of tour last Fall and realized that we all have different aspirations right now. It didn’t feel like the right time to create a new Format album,” adds Ruess.

The duo will continue to operate their label together but it remains to be seen if there will be another release from The Format. “There’s nothing scandalous about this decision,” says Nate, “Sam and I remain extremely close.”

Ruess already has the ball in motion for his first non-Format album, which is expected to be released later this year.

This just made my otherwise uneventful weekend :):):) Too bad every time I tried to see the Ask Nate section in the previous two weeks it didn't load so it took me that long to see it.

Question:
While watching the DVD my dad commented that you looked like a young Mick Jagger (something about the forehead), and my mother agreed and also tossed out something about a resemblance to Marky Mark. Thoughts? Hope you're having a nice holiday season.
asked by Hayley on 12/25/07
Answer:
i get them both on a weekly basis.
answered by The Format on 1/8/08

where are my pills? where is my former lover?

Say Anything playing Orlando the first Saturday of my spring break. Sounds perfect, right? Too bad my family is leaving for vacation bright and early that morning. Yeah yeah I was just telling my friend how I'd basically given up on asking to go to concerts during the school year, I'll have plenty of time to see concerts later in my life but I guess since, as I told my mom when she said "Say Anything? What's that?", SA is one of my favorite bands..and they're hitting a Florida city within reasonable driving distance on a weekend which has been pretty rare for bands I like touring lately (either coming during the school week or not at all)...rddfjyghkjndf I'm sick of going camping all week for "vacations".

Edit: So I moped around a bit until my mom said, "Ok What's wrong, you're moping around so obviously you want someone to ask." So I gave the spiel that came to me whlie I was bawling in the shower (bad idea) and now I think I might feel a little guilty for trying to manipulate my parents into this but it's not like they've said yes so I really shouldn't. I probably don't even want to go as much as I thought I did at that moment, considering how little of a reaction I had when I first realized they were playing on a weekend here. But once I found out it was Spring Break...I guess I felt like that was more of a reason to get upset because if my parents didn't insist upon leaving the first day of spring break then it wouldn't be a problem. Except for the whole undertaking of driving two hours out of town, two hours back. And then 4 hours to wherever the hell we're camping.

CUT CUT CUT

MAJOR FRIENDS CUT (salute)

So I went through and put anyone whose livejournal I bother to read and more or less anyone who has ocmmented on my journal in the last 6 months or so into a friends filter, and those are the ones who can see the post I just made a few minutes ago. If you can't see it, you're probably about to get removed froms my friends list, just because I'm tired of having this ridicuously long list of friends and communities that I have about 3 filters for just so I can see only the stuff I want to daily.

Most of you guys friended me back when I posted icons here anyway, and if that's all you're interested in then all you need to do is join pixelectric and you're set for the meager amount of stuff I've been posting lately.

So if you aren't one of the people I've already decided to keep, but you really want to stay on my flist for whatever reason to read my posts, drop me a comment and let me know please.

So two of my LJ friends posted this icon meme thing, and I replied to both of them because I'm impatient and it looked like fun because it's an excuse to talk about myself a little, haha. And I'm narcissistic like that.

1. reply to this post, and i will pick 7 of your icons.
2. then make a post (include the meme info), and talk about the icons i chose.
3. other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. this will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. whoo!

P.S. I'm working on the dorkiest mix ever.

So between the beana_cheese and rooibos I'm got more than seven, but whatever. maybe that defeats the purpose but maybe I don't care!

This was some random picture I came across on buzznet and decided to steal it and icon it. Heehee.

I was looking for a House icon, and I saw this and thought it was too perfect, since that was such a funny scene on the show. Wilson on uppers > all.

I decided I should stat using icons made by people besides me, and don't even remember what I was looking for when I came across this, but I love That 70's Show and thought this icon would be good fo A. When I was thinking or B. When I talked about pirates.

"For those of you who know Spanish, you know it means Hooray the Cobra!" Really, I just love Gabe and that's all that needs to be said. Everyone in Cobra Starship is pretty and deserves to be in my icon.

nokonchan was offering interest icons, so I took her up on the offer and she made me this lovely Eliah Wood icon. Incidently, in art this morning my friend was "granting wishes" and I wished for something I would "absoluely love" so she granted me an invisible Elijah Wood who I oculd not see o hear, but could feel...

Anthony Green is a majestic beast. That is all. I found this picture on flickr and thought it was gorgeoussss as were the many other Circa Survive pictures anthonydicapp (I think that's their username) had.

The album art for The Format's Snails EP. There aren't too many non-live pictures of the Format floating around, and this is just such nice artwork, it seemed like a good way to show my Format love in iconform.

Scrubssssssss. I think I came across this on the same icon-search as the one when I found the Eric one.

Brian from Top Chef. Love. I wish he had one. I still want to make a shirt that says "That's Malarkey!"

Say Anything. I do not think they require more of an explanation then that. I love Max and he loves me. The end.

Gael Garcia Bernal! Today in Spanish class actually, Shanti was looking through a newspaper and found a picture of him and called to me from across the room, "Hayley! There's a picture of your Mexican in here!" Because we refer to GGB as my Mexican and Diego Luna is hers. The lyrics are from the song The Dress Looks Nice On You, which is probably one of my favorite SS songs. This is probably the oldest icon I made that I still use, I just really like the coloring and the way the text came out.

First half of 2007 Album release wrap up

So this is the first year that I have been conscience enough about album releases the whole year that I will be able to consider making a top 10 of the year list. To make things easier for myself, I'm going to go ahead and list off the albums that have been released in the first 6 (err 7) months of the year as well as my thoughts on them. I think next year I'll do it more frequently, month by month, because my music tastes can change pretty rapidly I've learned now, and that way I'll be able to take into account my first impressions.

So basically these are all the albums I've gotten around to getting this year and may or may not of listened to.. Listed in order of release.

The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
January 23
Notes: Hmm, I downloaded this, but havn't given it as much of a listen as fairness would suggest. The Shins are one of those bands that you hear so many great things about but then, personally, don't really see it as much. Just not my type of music? Who knows. But I'll give it another shot.

Young Love - Too Young To Fight It
January 30
Notes: I really liked the song "Discotech" when I heard it somewhere on the Island site, so I thought this might be a fun party album but so far nothing else has really caught me. A bunch of my friends really liked that song though, I'll see if they ave any other thoughts to this album.

Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion
February 5
Notes: Regardless of what you think about the music, this kid has some pipes. 'Grace Kelly' made an infectious single, and I enjoyed some of the other songs off the album as well. One of those cd's you have to be in a certain mood to listen to though.

Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High
February 6
Notes: I'm not gonna lie, when I first listened to this, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yes, I was one of the horrible people to download the leaked copy. But I bought it too. I remember playing it for my friends on the way to our first FOB concert in January and the were all like "Oh MY GOD HOW DID YOU GET THIS?!?!" Heehee. They aren't what I would call internet savvy. Well, not what I would call illegal downloading savvy. I fell in love with most every song and listened to it for weeks on end. It also housed the first FOB song that I didn't like, the first song I would ever skip over "The (After) Life of the Party". Which is a shame because I really liked the title. Anyway, their sound definately matured and they have rocketed higher into super stardom than I could have ever imagined. Considering that fact it's hard to i,agine this album being considered a flop. It hasn't managed to hold me as much as their other stuff though.

Lifetime - S/T
February 6
Notes: Hardcore outfit Lifetime made quite a stir when signing to Pete Wentz's FBR label imprint Decaydance for their first album since the 10 years prior Jersey's Best Dancers. Given these guys importance in the influence of today's scene, I figured I should check this out. And I'm glad I did. With 11 songs, none of which being over 3 minutes, um.. I don't know where I was going with that. This note started sounding a little too reviewish anyway. Point is, realizing I liked these guys inspired me to check out their older stuff, as well as be more open to other bands that influenced the music I listen to today, like Jawbreaker.

Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob
February 26
Notes: If checking out a band/CD because you know your crush likes them makes you wrong, I don't want to be right. If I hadn't been stalking him via AIM and seen the lyrics "Let it never be said that romance is dead/'Cause there's so little else occupying my head" in his away message, I would never have downloaded 'Ruby'. And if I hadn't done that, I would not have recognized it that time it started playing the moment I stepped into the Gap one day (which was most obviously a sign that he was using the song in reference to me, because why else would my presence have triggered the song? No other reason, exactly). And if I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have checked out the rest of the album, nor stolen "Employment" from my dad. (He has good taste, see the note on the Arctic Monkey's release). Anyway, this album holds a special place in my heart, because even though my intentions when first listening were less than gracious, I truly do enjoy the music.

Relient K - Five Score and Seven Years Ago
March 6
Notes: Another album that I got when it leaked. I actually didn't realize how far in advance that it leaked though. Anyway, I've only recently been giving this album more than the inaugural first over listen. It showwsmaturity as well as sticking true to the bands hallmark sound. And I totally jsut noticed the band's shadows making the 5 tally mark on the album cover. Forgive me, I can be a bit slow. Anyway, I like it. Simple as that. "Faking My Own Suicide" has been weaseling its way onto more than its fair share of mixes that I've been making lately. I love that song. And "Crayons Can Melt on Us..." makes me smile every time.

William Tell - You Can Hold Me Down
March 13
Notes: Pleasing to listen to, but compared to the other things to arise from the ashes of SoCo, somewhat lackluster. Not a bad effort by any means though. (and by ashes I am of course referring to SoCo as a phoenix as it shall be reborn eventually. Hopefully. *crosses fingers*)

Jesse Malin - Glitter in the Gutter
March 20
Notes: As of my first forays into slightly more country tinged music, it was alright. I think I was slightly biased against it because I had heard it being described as such. Now that I have been shown the light in terms of not all music with country influences being horrible (Thanks to Limbeck. I'm looking at you Robb!) I think I shall give this another shot. Before the years up. And maybe check out this guy's other two albums.

The Academy Is... - Santi
April 3
Notes: I'm not a big fan of TAI. I went and bought merch during their set on the Honda Civic Tour. But I figured I'd give this album a shot, since I really liked that remix of 'Black Mamba' that was on the Snakes on a Plane Soundtrack. It's ok. I'm sure some people, many people, consider it great. It's really really just not my type of music. I've tried to listen to it at least three times, and never can I get through more than 2 songs. I'm not denying that these boys are talented, it's just really really not my sound.

Limbeck - Self Titled
April 10
Notes: I'll be honest, I haven't listened to this yet. I special ordered it from Borders since they are the only place that I can order things for store pick up and not pay online with a credit card. I will be listening to it in the next 1-6 weeks. But I loved their previous two albums and loved them live and have loved what I heard off this album, I'm going to assume that it will sufficiently please me.

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
April 18
Notes: I remember going to Best Buy with my dad, and he bought this and I was so glad to have a father with good taste in music. Anyway, the monkeys are back and I like this album. It's fast, it's fun, it's good. It's probably more than good, but I haven't really been that gracious with praise so far in this post so let's not go overboard.

Various Artists - Punk Goes Acoustic 2
May 8
Notes: I like this a lot. With a great assortment of bands enjoy, as well as others that I hadn't listened to before, but was glad I was introduced to, this album is, in my opinion, greater then it's predecessor. Ok, ok, maybe I'm biased because if it was possible to make love to a voice I would with Mark Hoppus' on the acoustic 'Baby, Come On'. Ok well, I'd make love to Mark Hoppus period. Anywayt that's not the point. If you think all the "Punk Goes..." compilations are stupid, this could be the one that might, might change your mind. If you like the bands, anyway. And without the "Punk Goes..." compilations, who would Immortal records rip off with the "Yo! Indie Rock Raps" compilation? That 30 second sample of Max Bemis singing Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money," makes me want to wet myself.

Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long
May 22
Notes: This album is really fucking catchy. I would start dancing around in my seat listening to this without even realizing. I would bring it in to play in art class and everyone loved it (Except like, Justine or someone withsuuuchhh goood taste in music that she couldn't possibly imagine liking somethign so, so mainstream. Hff.). Mr. O kept having to turn the voulme down because someone would always turn it up as they walked by. I tend to forget that Maroon 5 is like a legitimate band as opposed to like.. I don't know, and N*Sync-ish type "band". And maybe that's why people think they are above their level, but then I remember they area a real band and do not feel guilty at all for liking them. That's why this is nota guilty pleasure album, it's a plain pleasure album. Also, I do not understand why people think Adam Levine is attractive.

Circa Survive - On Letting Go
May 29
Notes: My first thoughts upon listening to this (also being the first time I ever listened to Circa Survive, or an other of Anthony Green's bands) were something like "This guy has a really really weird voice". However as time as passed and I've listened to it more and more, I have adjusted and have grown to really like this album. Besides, how can I deny a place in my heart to a band iwht lyrics like, "If blood is thicker than water then/You'll drown quicker then we intended". And it doesn't hurt that Anthony has the most beautiful blue eyes ever.

Boys Night Out - S/T
June 26
Notes: Maple leaves. Maple Syrup. Funny ways of saying "about". Lot's of good things come from Canada, including Boys Night Out. I haven't heard any of their other albums, but I enjoy this one quite a bit. Another album I haven't listened to as much as I should, I'll definitely be spinning this sometime soon in the next few weeks.

The Rocket Summer - Do You Feel
July 17
Notes: THIS is what I was waiting for all summer. THIS was the first thing I marked on my calendar taking up the full box. THIS iI AMAZING. If you are easily embarrassed, DO NOT listen to this outside the privacy of of your own home. Why? NO IT"S NOT BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF LIKING THE ROCKET SUMMER! ITS BECAUSE YOU WILL DANCE AND SING ALONG LIKE A MAD PERSON WITH THIS ALBUM. Obviously this is the first album I listed that I absolutely love. And I do absolutely love it. Such a progression, such wonderful talent. Bryce Avary is incredible. That's it, end of story. My album of the year so far. It's every thing I hoped for and more. Only The Rocket Summer could make me wish I didn't see the Format in concert. Why? Because TRS was playing in Jacksonville too, the same night. Of course then I felt like an ingrateful horrible person, but then I put on this CD and I felt better, haha. You cannot listen to this cd without smiling once, and if you can, you better go check your batteries because obviously you are a robot.

Yellowcard - Paper Walls
July 17
Notes: Ok, this is another album I haven't listened to yet. I was debating buying it when I picked up the Rocket Summer CD, but I figured I wait until I read a few more reviews. Yellowcard is one of those bands I like, but not enough to buy their albums without even thinking about it. But after a long careful deliberation, I will pick this up tomorrow when I coerce Heather into driving me to Best Buy to get Direction.

The Starting Line - Direction
July 31 (tomorrow)
Notes: This was streamed on The Starting Line's myspace page the other day, so I gave it a listen. I didn't immediately love it, it's quite a progression from their last album, which I liked quite a bit, but I think I'm going to go ahead and buy it because I respect these guys as artists and who knows, with the rate my tastes have been changing lately, this could end up being my album of the year.

Bands with albums that shoud come out this year that I am looking foward to:
Motion City Soundtrack
Cartel (I haven't heard the best things about it, and I lost some respect for them with the whole Bubble thing, but whatever)
That Yo! Indie Rock Raps compilation
Say Anything (If Max doesn't go crazy and they stick true to their word of an October release. WOAH A SAY ANYHTING SONG CAME ON SHUFFLE AS I TYPED THIS. ITS A SIGN. BECAUSE ITS ONE OF THE LIVE RECORDINGS OF A NEW SONG. YES.)
Jimmy Eat World!
Uhh. Theres more, I know it. Oh. New Found Glory (a cover album, but hey it' still NFG.)
Ok that's all I can think of.

EDIT: AUG 23
Starting line is amazing. still havent checked out yellowcard.

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/61o5w6RzndL._AA240_.jpg
dear and the headlights - small steps heavy hooves, feb 6
love it

new cds im looking forward too: cobra, steel train, all time low, and probably a bunch of other shit. saves the day!

So that's it everyone. Check it out and feel free to drop any suggestions of albums I missed. I went by Wikipedia's list of albums released this year, as well as seeing which albums had the year tag filled in on my itunes library. So I probably missed some.

On a completely unrelated note, a word to the wise: If you ever make blended coffee/ice/milk drinks for yourself DO NOT PUT OATMEAL IN THEM. Yes, I have heard it can be a wonderful addition to fruit smoothies and other blended beverages, but resist the temptation to expirimentally put oatmeal in something like the above. Oatmeal may seem bland enough that it will not throw off the flavor of your drink and will jsut be a sneaky way to get fiber into ourself, but just trust me. It's disgusting. Um, not that I tried it. I just heard..about someone who did. yeah.

Amazing, simply stated. Loads of fun and all that. I cannot compare it to any of the other concerts I have attended because it was pretty different. The smallest for sure. And ok, I'm just gonna say it now, Format fans are some of the greatest people ever. As a whole I mean, they are so nice. Really. Compared to Fall Out Boy fans (Now I know like, all of you who read my journal are FOB fans, but don't take this the wrong way. You guys are the nice FOB fans, but I'm sure you know that as a group theres more than a fair share of pushy bitches who calls themselves FOB fans. ok? ok), at least. First of all, it was really easy to just strike up conversation with anyone you were near. While I didn't try it often, I mad two friends I stuck with for most of the show, and girls in the audience with me would sometimes just turn and smile and be like "So have you seen the Format before?". And then when they were playing their last song, people in the front who I would assume have seen TF before, started dancing their way to the back and letting other people move up. I cannot imagine that happening at a FOB show. They would be trampled. Then ever more people moved and I started to up but then I kinda bumped into this other girl who appeared to be heading for the same spot I was. Since everyone was being so nice already I offered her the spot but then she let me have it. Aw <3 By the last minute or so I ended up in the second row which was amazing. Ok so yeah. Format fans are some of the best.

Note: I tried to be a polite and not use flash for my pictures, because I suppose it could be annoying for the performers and I know it is in the audience sometimes, to have flash constantly going off, and didn't for any of the openers, but by the time the Format came on I felt like I didn't have a choice if I wanted any sort of decent picture.

Ok so we were driving around looking for parking and we went behind the venue and I saw a big tour bus so I was like, Oh Hey, that's prolly The Format's bus. Then I saw these people walking and I was like, they look like their going to the show. Then we got closer and I was like WOAH THATS NATE EEEE (and who I later identified as Rob from Limbeck and some girl I think I saw working the merch) and got all starstruck cause I'm silly like that. Got a couple pictures of hem walking away, but that's alright cause the Back of Nate's vest had this awesome green pattern on it.

I was like OH SNAP ITS THEIR BUS

I'm not a stalker I swear

I loved that vest, it was very pretty. He didn't wear it during the show though. There were sooo many people wearing vests, it was ridiculous. Ok, not that many, but definitely more than you would see anywhere besides a Format show or a vest store.

Anyway - so once got in the venue I went up to these two girls who looked about my age (or younger, I thought, tbh. Ended up that one was my age and one was a year older. Whoops.) and introduced myself, saying I needed some people my age to hang out with 'cause I came with my dad and he just stood in the back the whole time or left and wandered around "Historic Five Points" haha. We bought our merch (I got the yellow shirt + button pack) and headed up towards the stage. We actually got pretty close right off the bat, just ended up right in front of the speakers, which in retrospect was a horrible idea because my ears are still ringing and I fear my hearing might be permanently damaged.

I'll be honest, Ollie Wilde, the "alternative magician" was kinda lame. He did card tricks, then pretended that he might have a chance of cutting his hand open. Would have been a lot more exciting if there was actually a chance he would, but it's called a magic trick for a reason. Eh.

Next was Steel Train, who I hadn't given a listen to before but I really enjoyed their set. Best performance by a band who I was not a fan of before the show. And "Killing Monsters in the Rain" would have to be the best name for a song ever (but "There's nothing funny about this song", according to the singer, haha). And their lead singer kept making eye contact with me ALOT. Like, I told myself maybe it wasn't that much but considering the only other time I made eye contact with anyone on stage was with the bassist from THT once or twice, it was definitely a lot. Not complaining though. Their singer told us about this cool thrift store a few shops down where he bought this big gold necklace/pendant he was wearing and how it was a cool shop and then in the next song it broke, ha. Maybe that's why it was in a thrift store. But really, it was cool looking. Other songs they played included "I Feel Weird" and "Road Song" (I can only name the ones that they told us the names of) edit: also, after checking out their myspace, I recognize that they played "Alone on the Sea", and I remember "Firecraker" now too. Man I should have preordered their cd.

So this is when I was supposed to go talk to Toco and ask him to call Muzz (because I don't havea cell phone) so I could meet the Format. Well, he did, and then he told me that Muzz said it would be after the show. That I could just meet them out by the bus and hang out or whatever. I'm gonna go ahead and say that's when I started losing hope, or maybe giving it up, because, well, ok we'll get to that later.

Headed back up towards the stage 'cause Limbeck was next and I started listening to them a week or so ago, and liked what I heard. Only wish: That they played "Sin City". I was all set to yell it out myself but some people beat me to it and Rob was like
"Ok yeah, I'll take you up on that dare. Just not right now." they played another song or two, then "Sin City", but he said it was called My Angel or something. I don't know, I was pretty much deaf at that point. More suggestions were shouted and he was like "Ok, we'll take your dares tonight. We'll prove how tough we are we don't refuse a dare" or something like that. I think the between song stage banter is one of my favorite parts of concerts. Other songs played = "Everyone's in the Parking Lot", "Bird Problems", "Silver Things" and "Big Drag". There were more of course, but those are the ones I knew the names of/could remember.

Next up: The Honorary Title. They must have had some serious tech problems because it took really long for them to set up and be ready. If someone who timed it said they spent more time setting up then they did playing I would believe it in a heartbeat. So maybe it was that growing impatience in combination with knowing it was just these guys keeping me from the Format that I didn't feel like I was enjoying their set that much. But I started to like it more as they went along. At one point their singer as was like
"Oh there are such cute girls is Jacksonville. So many cute girls. Oh I'm so sweaty" the he started wiping himself in an exaggerated nervous manner. "Such cute girls"
    "And boys!" added their bassist.
"Oh yes. cute boys. Hot boys! Jacksonville has such cute girls and hot boys." Quite amusing. However: Opening bands who's fanbase does not represent a significant amount of the audience should not be allowed to play ballads in the middle of their set. At the end, sure. But in the middle? It puts a real damper on the mood, especially if the crowd wasn't that into the band in the first place. And I don't mean to single out THT, it's just an observation/suggestion.
I can only rememeber one of their song names, "Stay Away", but to be fair they only told us two of them. The other one was a new one, and it had a one word polysyllabic name that started with R. And the title made me think of warmth and the sun, if thats any help. Probably not.

Ok and then everyone started setting up for The Format! I think one of the main differences between this show and others I've been to was that these bands actually set up their own equipment. No huge crews of roadies an other employment, they did it themselves which was cool and definitely an anti-diva move. I"m sure that this is common for bands of this fame level, but I just gotta say I appreciate it, because I'm sure they could have just as easily picked up a few random people to help them out. And it's cool because you get to see the band doing something other than performing. Well, except for Nate 'cause he didn't help set up at all and didn't come out till it was time to start but hey, I read that 'Dear Nate' question about it. I didn't expect him to.

Ok so anyway, The Format. I had moved up to a quite decent spot by now, way off the stage left but not against the wall like I had been before. And my hearing was really messed up and muffled, everyone sounded like they had breathed helium so Nate's voice was especially odd sounding but I can assume it would have sounded plenty great I could hear properly. Dad was right, next time: ear plugs. On another note that is more or less very off topic Facebook is being a bitch and will not upload m pictures after 4 or so tries even. Good thing they're on flickr too. Ok so really I love The Format. Such energy and fun...funacity. Yeah I made up a new word. Suck it. The level of funacity was amazing. They are all amazing musicians and performers, and Nate definitely has perfected his stage presence, knowing exactly when to lean in to the audience, when to toss the mic back and forth to himself, and when to flash that amazing smile and run his hand through his hair.
Set List as best I could remember:
        The Compromise
        Pick Me Up
        Tie the Rope
        Oceans
        Sore Thumb
        She Doesn't Get It
        Janet
Tune Out ( I remember I totally predicted when they were going to play this. I was thinking, I hope they play Tune Out and soon too and then bam guess what song they play)
        Wait x3
        On Your Porch
        Inches and Falling
        Dog Problems
        I'm Ready, I Am
Encore (maybe this is when they played I'm Ready, I Am. Cause the encore was four songs but I can only name three):
Caravan (Van Morrison cover. My dad who knows that song much better than I do said it was a good choice for a cover and they did it pretty well. If they can please my dad it must have been good, haha. I'm so proud :D )
Give it Up (joined by Rob from Limbeck)
    The First Single

So yeah. Amazing. Solid show, great time. Nate kept commenting on how hot it was and showed off his sweat stained pits. "We're from Arizona so we're used to this. But this is always the hottest place on earth." Or something to that effect.

Ok it's gonna be hard to just pick a few pictures of the Format to post, since I took so many. Mostly of Nate though, since he was the closest and most dynamic. Did you know that the coke trademark is described as something like "The Coke logo and dynamic ribbon.."? Dynamic ribbon. Yeah that's nice.

Anyway, the show ended, I met back up with my dad. It had been pouring for over an hour during the show, apparently, but it had stopped by midnight when we got out. We walked back to where the bus was parked but of course no one was out there yet. I could tell my dad didn't want to wait around, and honestly, I didn't really either, so we left. Yeah, I could have met them, got pictures, probably even gone on the bus, but you know what? I think I'm getting close to pinpointing what it is that makes bands become less interesting to me, and I think it's when I feel like I know everything about them. Seeing them in concert normally means my listening to them will take a severe cut in the next 4 months. It's not a conscience decision, I just lose interest. And I think that's because they lose that veil of secrecy that surrounds being in a good band. So I decided I would rather keep a bit of mystique surrounding The Format so they don't end up dead to me by the end of the year. And you know what? I'm not disappointed. Not at all, definitely nowhere near how I was when I didn't get to meet Gabe/Cobra. Why? Because this was my choice, and I'm happy with the one I made.

I know it's a bit cheesy but I can't think of a better way to sum this up than...
<3

p.s. the rest of my pics are here

I entered the "Summer of the Format" contest to win tickets (and other things that I had actually forgotten about) to their summer tour a month or so ago. I would say I forgot about it, except that seeing their tour poster as my myspace picture and in my LJ profile reminded me all the time. Just yesterday actually, here in this ver journal, I said "i wish that contest the format is running would finish up so i can take their tour poster out of my profile/make my myspace profile picture not it/play a different song on my myspace and facebook". Which was very true.

So when I checked my email nearly an hour ago and saw the subject "SUMMER OF THE FORMAT CONTEST WINNER!!", my first thought was "Good, it's over, I can get rid of that thing now. I need a change,". My next thought was "Wait, 'winner', as in, singular? Only one person won? That's so lame,". And as I clicked 'next' to open it up, the thought finally crossed my mind, "Haha, what if it means that I won? Ha, as if."

I began to read it, thinking it was any other ho hum email, but not many ho hum emails begin with..

"Congratulations you are one of the winners for the Summer of The Format contest!!"

I continued reading the email and then I FREAKED THE FUCK OUT. Not only did I win TICKETS to the concert, I also won a SIGNED TOUR POSTER AND PASSES TO MEET THE BAND!! I got on AIM but no one was on, which was even more disappointing now then ever.

So yeah. I am very very excited. I have calmed down slightly but it will probably sink in a little more once I tell my dad and try to convince him that this means he HAS TO take me. And if he won't, worst comes to worst, I find a friend who can go who has a parent that will drive.

Soo... OMGOMGOMG ajklnkjlvfbliauadgf
I GET TO MEET THE FORMAT
dkfb;a !!!1!!!!1!!!one!!!!1!11!!!!ELEVEN1!

Not up to recounting the entire concert experience.
But I will tell you this
The worst feeling in the world
Yes, seriously and honestly, the worst feeling ever
Is to wait 45 minutes-an hour in line to meet Gabriel Eduardo Saporta
and get to experience a little bit of his south american goodness

only to have the line LITERALLY CUT OFF RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU
AND HAVE SOME DOUCHE BAG ROADIE TOUR GUY SAY "I'M SORRY THERES JUST NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR EVERYONE"

No, your not sorry. So don't try to play it like you are. If you were actually sorry you wouldn't be saying this to me with that stupid smile on your face.

And you to, old lady "security guards". You aren't 'sorry'. I look at you with tears welling in my eyes and all I get is "Sorry, no."

And thanks a lot you little middle school skanks who were in line BEHIND US. Who we talked to while we waited in line. And you know how, at concerts you might just meet them, but you can form some sort of little bond in that short time? I thought we had. But then they manage to sneak into the line and when I look at them and say "But we were with them! They were behind us!" Do you say anything? No. Just look at me like she wasn't the one who was just on her phone with her mom saying "Yeah, we're in line to meet that guy..."

GABE. HIS NAME IS GABE. AND MAYBE IF YOU ACTUALLY GAVE TWO SHITS ABOUT HIM YOU WOULD KNOW THAT.

And now I'm getting all worked up about this again. I couldn't stop thinking about this on the way home and when I was trying to sleep, it was just driving me crazy. Thinking about how it could have gone, anything I could have done to not get cut off. Damn.

At least I got some good pictures, since we were pretty close to them.

an open letter to wentz & co.

max bemis may have put me under his spell but just because some fresh tunes may have me swoonin' more than your crusty dusty old ones its still those crusty dusty old tunes of yours that can put a smile on my face or sooth me when i am curled up in the fetal position crying just the same. its those crusty dusty old tunes that bring back the memories of all the good times i've shared having to do with you guys and the overwhelmingly amazing feeling that accompanies those memories. i mean who could make me feel the joy i do when you smash up a copy machine with a sledge hammer or steal a golf cart and drive down some stairs in it? no one. so maybe infinity on high doesn't have the same glitter it did two months ago and fuct was never really had that shimmer for me but ttyg will always be solid gold to me. its the anthems that pump through my vein, the summary of every emotion i've ever felt. the songs i sing in the shower. yeah you heard me. when i feel like i can't think of any song to sing in the shower (because i always do) "tell that mick..." is always there to help me up. and who know where that will lead me? the goofy kid who jumped off his roof holding a patio umbrella, the one who put on a dinosaur costume and rode down a hill on a tricycle..he's all grown up now. he's a certified rockstar with a barbie doll girlfriend. sometime i think that it's all gone to your head and wonder who you are but I know you'll always come around in the end. after all, you "do it for the scars and stories, and not the fame", right?

sometimes i feel like nothing will ever make me as happy as those four dirty smelly boys do, and i'm ok with that.

Tonight is all about "We miss you"
And I can't forget your style or your cynicism
somehow it was like you were the first to listen
to everything we said.
My smile's an open wound without you
and my hands are tied to pages inked to bring you back.

Everyday I wake up late Since I quit my day job I have been sane

Spent most of most last night dragging this lake
for the corpses of all my past mistakes

I kissed a drunk girl, I kissed a drunk girl yes I did.

      As these days pass
Underground
Breathe the air
Before you drown

So here's a question,
I'll hypnotize you,
But will you follow me,
Follow all these footsteps I left behind

Watching the days burning out like a cigarette, just a few drags to go.

This bloody road remains a mystery
sweet sixteen?

So I'm sixteen. It doesn't feel the least bit different. I didn't even remember it was my birthday when I first woke up. I ewas just cold. But maybe since the festivities were yesterday it felt like it was already over with.

My party was pretty fun. 11 of the 14 people made it, so having twelve total was a nice round number. I'm kinda OCD about that. So pretty much all the time we were at my house people just stood around the food. I was like, seriously get some plates and go stand somewhere else and everyone's like, "Lol, plates." Parties bring out the control freak in me. Anyway, even though everyone split up into their little groups of two or three people they all seemed to enjoy themselves.

After a little while I opened my presents. Kyah gave me a cute headband and shirt with lots of guitars printed on it. A magazine with Fall Out Boy on the cover, the FOB calendar (which I already had, but I'll find some use for it!) and some candy from Layne. Leana made me a shirt that says "I have a Wentz-T-D" and "Do you like granola?" on it (inside-ish jokes). Confessions of a Shopaholic (which was actually a really good present because I read the sequel without realizing it was the sequel and have wanted to read this one) from Ally, and an iTunes giftcard from Sarah - once again, very useful because theres some cool 'itunes' only stuff I've had my eye on. Anjum gave me this weird but still really funny book called Look at My Striped Shirt! Confessions of the People You Love to Hate. I just realized both book I received have the word 'confessions' in the title. Shanti gave me this funny shirt I'm wearing now that says "Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies" and has this little monster dude with cookies on it. And it glows in the dark! Pretty sweet. Kelly gave me a very thoughtful and unbelievably funny note with a picture of her taped to it, some burnt CDs (Adam Green and The Moldy Peaches) and a Hot Topic giftcard. And some recipes! Very nice. Victoria made me this incredibly adorable monster lunch box she made me, complete with sandwich pocket and googly eyes. Other Victoria's and Heather's gifts are on their way - yay for having friends who can order stuff off the internet. I'll act surprised when I get them though.

Right, then a little later we walked to the Village Center, had cake and icecream and played croquet, during which everyone spoke with a British accent most of the time. On the way back Ally decided to climb this knocked over tree and she went pretty far out/up. Then everyone else ran off except me and Sarah, becasue couldn't leave on of my guests to plummet to her death. I figured the other people could take care of themselves if they ran into one of the wandering rapists that plague the woods. It took her forever to come back down, but she did, and we continued on, unknwoingly walking past the other people who had gone down a little side path. Because then when we were almost home they all came stampeding from behind and it wasn't as surprising as I think it should have been. I was just like, "Oh hey, there you guys are."

My mom had drawn a birthday cake with chalk on the driveway and wrote "Happy 16th Hayley" or something. Some people were like "Who wrote that?!?!" and some others replied, uh, her parents? It was funny. She left the chalk out so people drew pictures and stuff. IT was fun and a nice way to wrap up. Then we came back inside, and of course everyone returned to the food. Then people started getting picked up and I told Heather and Kelly (and Victoria, since she came with her) that since they drove themselves here they had to be the last to leave. Shanti ended up having to be driven to an elementry school where her mom was since she couldn't find my house. Heather, Kelly and Victoria ended up staying 4 hours after the party ended. I have no idea how we stayed entertained that long. We were just in my room the whole time, looking at yearbooks and magazines, listening to music.I showed them my collections. Shoeboxes of Archie comics and a drawer full of Beanie Babies. Eventually we ended up making "music videos" for some songs, including Dashboard Confessional's "Hands Down", Simple Plan's "Addicted" and of course "Fit But You Know It" by the Streets. Crazy fun, and if I ever need to blackmail them, Youtube is but a few clicks away.

So yeah. Fun party. My real birthday won't measure up, haha. I'm gonna go by Seasons EP for the SIms 2. The only reason I hadn't bought it yet was because I though someone might give it to me, but Sarah and Ally said, yeah we thought about getting that for you but we figured you already had it (because I usually buy the EPS within a week of their release)

I've Got All This Ringing In My Ears And None On My Fingers

So that was one of the greatest things ever. It still hasn't completely sunk in yet, but I think it's starting to. So let's recap the whole thing now so I can look back at this and sigh.

So we picked Heather and Sarah up around 3, and we were on our way. I had a little surprise for them (which is a secret you two, so shush) that I think they enjoyed. We listened to music for a while and then we watched the musical episode of Scrubs since I had downloaded it the day before. We then somehow managed to entertain ourselves for the rest of the two hour trip. Next thing we knew we were in Orlando! We got to the parking garage and parked in the Spiderman floor which was enough to excite me. We then started heading towards city walk.

So we got to City Walk and then what? We walked, of course. we headed to the hard rock and saw that, around 5 o clock, then line was already horrendously long. we figured there was no point getting in line since we were going to get up to the front the hard way anyhow, and we needed something to eat anyway. so we headed back towards... Margavitaville! It was a nice atmosphere there, a little cheesy though when the "volcano" ahem "erupted". i got a chicken ceaser salad and the croûtons were fantastical. there was one that was so huge though, i could barely fit the whole thing in my mouth.

it was around 6:30 i think when we finished, so we headed back towards the hard rock. they had already started letting people in. so we joined the line and started the progression. there were some girls in line right ahead of us who came all the way from miami! one of them was wearing the FOB robot shirt i had, so I said "nice shirt" which is what i always do when someone has the same shirt, etc. as me. i took a picture for them and one of them had the pete doll. i told her i had the joe one and we both stated how we wanted the whole set but that $15 each was outrageous.

eventually we got up to the merch booth, which was set up right outside the venue. there was a huge line for the FOB stuff hbut almost none for the NFG, so i went up there and got a cool shirt. we then got in line for the fob stuff, and i got a tshirt and the white clandestine belt. they didnt have as much clan stuff as i hoped, just the 'sugar and spice' and 'snakes snail, etc" shirts. and the fancy kid jacket, but i didnt want to get a jacket. so yeah. there goes $55.

then we got inside and staked out a place on the floor. it was smaller thamn i was expecting (but then again ididnt know what to expect) which was nice. i tlaked to this girl and her mom, but i didnt realize it was her mom until she said so. we talked about this group of cheerleaders i saw on the way into the park. anyway, stuff happened and then permanent me came out. they were pretty good. nothing that made me go 'omg wow', except maybe their guitarist. hottieeee. hhaaha. someone gave them a note that said "I love mike" who was the drummer and the singer or maybe te bassist was like, "hey what about the rest of us, we need loving too!". overall a group of fairly talented and moderately attractive dudes.

cutie patootie

next was the early november. again, good, very enjoyable, but im not exactly running out to best buy to get their cd. maybe i just had trouble really getting into the first two bands because i knew they were all that was keeping me from NFG and FOB. anyway, they were good, i don't remember as much about them. i do remember jordan came out and sang during their last song (they did about 5 total) which got me really excited because i knew we were getting closer to the stuff i really cared about.

wee! during TEN

between TEN and NFG we started tlaking to these two girls standing near us, becasue there were soeme really rude people shoving us around and whatnot. we decided we would stick together and try to work our way up closer. and we did! together we got to about 8 layers of people away from the stage. we kind of lost them during NFG's set, which made me a little sad. they were alot nicer than some people.

so anyway, then New Found Glory finally began. absolutely amazing and fantastic and fabulous and every other word ever use to describe something great.so much energy. and theres one great thign about bands where the lead singer doesn't play an instrument - hes free to run around stage and do whatever, which was cool. i got a ton of pictures of jordan, as you can see if you check out my album, but that was mainly because he was the one i could get the best pictures of.
so lets see - they started out with 'Understatement'. Then I think it was 'Failures Not Flattering'. Next was either 'Coming Home' or 'Hit or Miss'. Then the other. they also played 'Hold my Hand' and 'It's Not Your Fault', form the new album. the played 'Forget My Name' and "the sexy slow song all the girls wanna hear" 'I Don't Wanna Know'. There may have been another one or two, but i know they wrapped up with 'My Friend's Over You'. Super fantastical. I'd have to say the only downside of their set was when someone was crowdsurfing and i realized that their crotch was pretty much resting on my head for at least 5 seconds. then once they moved they basically kicked me in the face. not fun.

And then, what most everyone was waiting for. Fall Out Boy! There was a huuuugeeee wait between NFG and FOB, the other set changes took like half as long. we moved positions around a little, Sarah let me swap spots with her, moving me closer (thanks again <3<3) because it was 'my dream, not hers'. and this guy let heather up ahead of him to be with us since he'd seen FOB like 4 times before or something. +1 for the nice folks. i found myself pressed uncomfortable close to a guy who looked quite quite quite a bit like mel gibson and who smelled like watermelon-axe. anyway, when FOB finally started it got so loud and bumby and woah. i mean there was shoving before, but nothing like this. we were about 5 layers of people away from the stage. but i wasnt satisfied. eventually i got up to the 3rd row, within arms distance of the barricade, and i could have grabbed it if the people there would have scooted like 4 inches over. amazingggggg. i was also able to take better pictures since there was less shoving (well plenty of shoving to move up but not so much random back and forth side to side shoving). and my camera is sooo slooowww i have to hold it perfectly steady, but that became alot easier. so yeah. i was close. this girl right behind me caught a pick tha tjoe through. yeah i was on the side where joe was most of the time, but he and pete would switch occasionally. patrick pretty much stayed in the middle and didn't go to either side much, but he did come right in front of me once. i totalllyyy made eye contact with joe. so lets see, what songs did they play.

not necessarily in order, in fact, most likely not.
-our lawyers made us..etc
-sugar
-patron saint of liars and fakes
-tell that mick
-16 candles
-nobody puts baby..
-growing up
-where is your boy
-gin joints
-XO (joe got really into this one, eye sexing everyone and what not)
-arms race
-thriller
-dance dance (when dirty was out, and he dance danced right along, haha)
-saturday (i know this was the last one)

i know there were a ton more, since when we counted them in the car we got at least 14. thats all i remember hto. ill edit if i think of more.

but yeah. amazing. fantastic. FOBtastic.
i'm still waiting for it to hit me. i'm glad i took a shower.

other miscellaneous info i forgot:
-i was really really thirsty. my mouth got so dry i had to stop singing in some of the FOB songs since i knew it could only get worse. during NFG there was a water bottle being passed around so i drank some of that. i figured i'd rather die of diseases later from that bottle 8+ people drank from than die then of thirst.

-when i was up really close i wished those 2 girls we met had been able to stick with us because i totally woulds have swapped spots with one of them for a little while since they were really nice compared to some people and they deserved to be up there just as much as i did.

-i lost my jacket at one point. i felt myself step on something soft and i realized it was my jacket so i picked it up and i couldn't tie it back around my waist since i had no room, so i had to just tuck it into my belt (since i was wearing my new belt over my shirt since i couldn't really fit it in my purse.

- my dad saw someone get arrested! he was outside at one point (since he stayed in the back the whole time) and he saw the cops bring some guy out and, he must have said something to him, because then they pressed him up against the wall and cuffed him or something.

i have a ton more pictures, but so far i've only uploaded the on facebook. i might post em later if i get a chance.
